Home Energy Ratings

What You Need To Know About Home Energy Ratings

Our homes each use energy at a different rate.
It can vary depending on which appliances we use
and how we use them. It can also vary depending
on how much energy is wasted.

Ratings are established by looking at the energy usage in our homes and
then comparing the results with homes that have a similar number
of people living in them and which have much the same layout.

The results help us determine a home energy rating which can tell
us how energy efficient our home is.

Computers are used in order to compile the information and calculate the comparison.
This is important because an energy efficient home costs less money and is easier to keep comfortable as well.
When we lose energy due to waste or energy leaks, we end up throwing money away and may also
have trouble maintaining our home’s interior at a comfortable temperature.

A Look At The Standard Assessment Procedure

Many people are aware of the standard assessment procedure (SAP) that is used in the United
Kingdom to determine a home’s energy rating.
In Ireland, a similar system is in place that generates the Irish Energy Rating used for Irish homes.
This scale generates a score that ranges from 1 to 120.
The better a home’s energy rating is, the easier it is to keep a home more
comfortable without spending a massive amount of money to do so.

If a home is very inefficient, the energy costs required to control the temperature can be quite high.
If you want to ensure that your home is as inexpensive to heat and cool as possible, you need to find
out what its energy rating is.

Increasing Your Home’s Efficiency Means Lower Energy Bills
If you increase your home’s efficiency, your energy bills will decrease.
You can do this by paying attention to how energy efficient the appliances in your home are.
Appliances are rated on a scale of A to G in terms of how much energy they use when they are running.
You need to look and find appliances that rate in the higher end of this spectrum.
An energy sticker rating of “G” means that it is the most energy efficient possible.
Many appliances tend to fall around the “E” mark, meaning they are still quite efficient.

What To Do About Unrated Appliances

If you are unsure about what your home’s energy rating is, we can help.
We have experts who can perform an energy audit and review items and
appliances that do not have an energy efficiency rating.

By performing an audit and then making recommended changes, we can help you increase your
home’s efficiency rating and this can relate to substantial savings on your energy bills.
