Air Source Heat Pumps
If you need to heat and cool your home in a very economical way, you may want to consider an air source heat pump system for your home. These systems allow you to harness the energy in the air surrounding your home and use this to produce heat which can then be used to raise the temperature of your home to a comfortable level.
There are a number of advantages to air source heat pumps. They include:
- Compact design.
Unlike ground source heat pumps or water source heat pumps, these systems can be installed in areas where there is not an excess amount of open space.
This also reduces the cost since underground tubing is not needed with this type of heat pump system - Reasonable operation cost.
Although these systems do use some electricity, they are extremely efficient and will produce between three and four units of heat per unit of electricity utilized - Versatility.
These systems can be used to heat or cool the air and can also dehumidify the air much more effectively than a traditional central air conditioning unit
How Air Source Heat Pumps Work
Air source heat pumps move heat from one area to the other.
When you require heat in your home, the system will pull energy out of the air and transform it into heat for your home.
This can be accomplished in air that can be as cold as -20°C although a system such as this can only supply 100% of your heating needs in air that is 0°C or warmer.
In the event that temperatures fall below this level for more than a short period of time, they are designed to be used in conjunction with a booster system which is also very efficient and inexpensive to operate.
In summer, when cool air is required rather than hot air, an air supply heat pump simply transfers the heat energy in your house’s air outside so that your home becomes much more comfortable. Because the air is also being dehumidified, it becomes more comfortable in this way as well.
