Condensing Boilers

Condensing boilers can be an efficient way for you to heat your home.
They tend to be more energy efficient than standard boilers due to a
second step in the heating process.
Unlike standard boilers which lose much of their energy after
the water has been heated, condensing boilers utilize the heat
energy in the gasses which would normally be vented out into the environment.
When you consider that this gas is normally between 150 and 200°C
you can see that there is quite a bit of energy which
can be gained by harnessing this otherwise useless gas.

How Do Condensing Boilers Work?

Condensing boilers work by adding a second heat exchanger in the boiler itself.
When water returns through the boiler it is cooler and this causes the gas to cool down as well.
When the gas is cooled down, eight percent of the gas’s total fuel energy is recovered.
This leads to two advantages and means that this type of heating is much more cost effective and environmentally friendly.

The two advantages are:

  • More heat is gained from each fuel unit, meaning that your fuel bill will be reduced.
Approximately 30% of the cost of operating your boiler can be recovered and you will find that your boiler system will pay for itself in a relatively short period of time
  • Carbon dioxide emission is also reduced so the total contribution to global warming is also reduced

Which Heating Systems Can Take The Most Advantage Of Condensing Boilers?

Condensing boilers can be used on their own to provide hot water heating for your home.
If, however, you are interested in even more extensive savings on the cost of heating your home, you may want to consider using a condensing boiler in conjunction with a solar water heating system or an under floor heating system.
Both of these heating methods are also very efficient and can reduce the cost of heating your home significantly.

The Advantages Of Choosing High Efficiency Boilers

Condensing boilers are high efficiency boilers which means that they are more efficient about producing heat from a given fuel source.
A high efficiency furnace or boiler can produce much more heat from a given amount of fuel than a lower efficiency unit is able to.
You may be surprised to find that a high efficiency boiler can actually operate at a 90% efficiency.
Older boilers may only be operating at between a 50-55% efficiency rate.
