Water Source Heat Pumps

Water source heat pumps are a great way to heat your home at a much lower cost than other fuel sources.
It utilizes the heat in the water surrounding your home in order to control your home’s temperature.
Like other types of heat pumps, water source heat pumps often work best when they are used in conjunction with a heating system such as under floor heating.

Water is constantly being heated by solar radiation on a daily basis.
By harvesting that energy and transferring it into your home, you are tapping into an endless source of pollution-free energy.
In the winter, when temperatures may drop, it is still possible to harvest a large amount of heat for your home although you may need to boost it during prolonged periods of cold weather.

How Do Water Source Heat Pumps Work?

Water source heat pumps are one of three types of heat pumps available.
The other two are ground source heat pumps and air source heat pumps.
Water source heat pumps can pull the latent heat from wells and rivers.

In the same way as ground source heat pumps harvest heat, water source heat pumps use a system of tubes to collect heat.
Water source heat pumps use an open loop system which takes in heated ground water and collects the heat before returning it to the source and collecting new, warmer water.

Advantages of Water Source Heat Pumps

There are many advantages of water source heat pumps. They include:

  • Extreme high efficiency.
The water that is used is naturally extremely warm which means that your system can have upwards of 500% efficiency.
Unlike ground source heat pumps there may be no need to boost your system even in colder weather.
  • Lack of chemical additives.
Unlike a ground source heat pump, a water source heat pump uses an open loop which means that no chemicals are being used in the system itself.
Only the water itself is being used in the system to provide your home with heat.
  • Zone by zone temperature control.
The heating systems powered by water source heat pumps can be controlled very easily on the basis of individual zones.
Unlike other heating systems this means that individual areas can be heated to your preference and this can keep your home more comfortable overall.
