Building Insulation
Building insulation is one of the most effective ways to help control the temperature in your home and make it more energy efficient.
Although insulation is available in many different forms, it can be broken down most easily into natural source insulation and insulation which uses synthetic materials in its construction.
Here are some examples of both natural and synthetic insulation which can be used to shield a building against temperature extremes.
It also helps protect against moisture infiltration and prevents the formation of mold in your home as well.
Synthetic Insulation
Not all of the synthetic insulations on the market are suitable for residential use.
Here are some examples of synthetic insulation.
Our qualified experts can advise you as to which ones will meet your needs the best.
Synthetic insulation includes:
- Polyurethane Foam.
Also known as PU foam, it can either be used in sandwich panels or as a spray which can insulate an area.
It is an excellent insulating material and is also resistant to water permeation as well. - Expanded Polystyrene Foam or EPS foam. This can also be used in sandwich panels or sprayed into an area which needs insulation. However it does not have good fire retardant qualities and may need additional treatment to keep your home fully protected against fire.
- Poly Ethylene foam (PE foam).
This is a form of insulation which is used mainly with pipes that have been pre-insulated. Like PU foam it is also highly water resistant, making it a perfect choice for pipes that need insulation.
Natural Building Insulation
The majority of natural building insulation is made from either silica or plant cellulose.
Many forms of natural insulation are excellent at retaining heat and can make your home much more energy efficient.
Our qualified consultants can help you make the choice that is best for your needs. Some forms of natural insulation include:
- Glass wool.
This form of natural insulation is made from sand and recycled bottles.
The silica forms fibers and are held together with a resin binder.
This form of natural insulation has excellent fire retardant qualities which gives your home added protection. - Slag and rock wool.
This natural insulation also uses silica fibers but these are drawn from rocks rather than recycled glass. - Cotton.
This type of natural slab insulation uses cotton fibers.
It does not have good fire retardant qualities and may need additional chemical treatment to give you the fire protection you need. - Cellulose material.
This form of natural insulation uses cellulose from recycled newspapers and other similar paper products.
It also has a poor fire rating.
